Digibeat Music‘s latest release is a four track digital EP by Eschaton. This lable has been putting its name to some great free music for a while now and this latest offereing continues in that vain. My review below.
Manifestation – This track takes me back to Good Looking at its height with very simple melodic lines over chopped breaks and clean sub. Very nice mellow tune to kick off an EP.
Altered Perception -More nicely chopped breaks but a slightly bigger liquid sound to this one. It makes me think of older Logistics stuff, definitely liquid but with enough dirt to keep it rolling. There’s a couple of nice synth melodies that play off each other and fit in around the more subtle bass line.
Beyond The Physical – This certainly fits into the amen roller category but the rhythms feel more chopped up this time which I like, particularly in the intro. The clean solid reece that drones on in the back ground is a nice compliment to the beautiful guitar and piano lines.
Tao – A very fast break with a definite live drummer type sound. It feels really rocking to begin with and out of place with the other tracks but as the pianos come in and the the spacey backing it takes on a strangley more mellow feel. There is a part of me that would love to hear this track with a less hetic beat. I think the break down is worthy of note as the vocal sample really works and has been processed well.
On the whole I think this 4 track release is very good. The writing is better than the production in my opinion but I don’t want that to sound like I’m saying the production is shit as it obviously isn’t.
