Net Label Feature – digitalGEWITTER

digitalGewitter

I came across this net label recently digitalGWITTER via a remix competition that they were running. I liked the drum and bass that the label was promoting, so I decided to get a little more information and write a short feature about the label.

digitalGWITTER was originally the title for another project. but when Rob from digitalGEITTER started a net label, he decided the name was perfect for his latest idea. Its a German name that translates roughly to “Digital Thunder Storm”, which I quite like. Seems pretty appropriate for a digital based label promoting bass fueled sound system music.

Rob’s original intention was to promote unknown artists via a platform of free releases promoted and managed by the label. As this idea developed it became apparent that there was a lot of local German talent that deserved being brought to fore. The best example of this is Wintermute who has released 2 singles and The Flow EP, the most recent drum and bass release by the label. Since they launched in August 2008 they have put out 6 releases 4 of which are drum and bass with the most recent “Don’t by KoZe.oNe being a dub step tune. This week also sees the end of the Wintermute Remix Contest the winner of which will feature on one of the forthcoming releases. Along side all this is a regular podcast featuring artists associated with the label, which in turn allow the artists to showcase some of the music they are listening to at the time.

The future looks busy for Rob with there being the judging of the remix competition, the release of the winner, pod-casts booked in with artists until the end of the year and a possible club night in the pipe line. The next EP is also being worked on right now and there are some ideas for a CD release at some point.

If you are a producer making tunes and fancy getting something into the digitalGEWITTER catalog I suggest sending tracks through their sound cloud account. I’m a total sound cloud fan boy by the way, it just works so well! There’s no strict ethos in terms of the genre, its mostly going to be drum and bass and dub step but I’m reliably informed that some 4×4 will  be making an appearance.

I like the vibe coming from this project and Rob seems a friendly guy out to add his piece to the scene. Below I have included my favorite 2 release so far from the label.
